You don't need to teach tables to teach decompression theory, and I think
that is the main point. Realistically
tables don't represent typical dive profiles, so why bother using them (I
am of course excluding technical dives).
I also can't see the point in teaching PADI style tables as they are the
most cumbersome tool I have ever come
across for something that is ostensibly quite basic (compare for instance
to the BS-AC 88 tables which are a doddle
to use for basic dive planning.)
Compare also to log books, I haven't used one in years, I use a calcualtor.
I understand very well the theory of logarithms, but I don't need to use a
log book to know that.
Just a different point of view......
