Daughters are wondeful dive buddies. Stephanie was 12 when she got
certified and then at 16 decided boys were more exciting. Has not gone back
to diving. Maybe someday.

<sigh>
Had a similar experience. Ashley really wanted to get certified so she could dive with her Dad, and brother. But all the dive folk we hung out with were really old, like her Dad, and the water was too cold in the Puget Sound, etc.
She told me she'd like to try warm water diving. Wouldn't we all?
Now she's 18, and definitely doesn't have time for diving.
