Lee!  It's been my experience that the longer hose offers the donating diver
far greater control than does a shorter hose while still permitting up close
and personal  contact where necessary.  In that regard, I've found the 5ft
hose to be the perfect length.  The donor can maintain physical contact with
the recipient and provide re-assurance while still being able to perform
equipment tasks, (weight ditching, venting their BCD, etc.) that are
sometimes more difficult when the OOA diver may be in near panic mode and
'in your face'!  :-)
