It is called either DIR or Hogarthian.  It is a philosophy of diving that
includes the equipment and fitness and many other things.  The long hose is
only the smallest part of it though maybe the most obvious and one of the
most controversial.  It is a fact that an OOA diver will take the reg in
your mouth. BTDT several times.  It does make it easier to share air.  Go
lurk on the tech list (quietly - they can be really vicious) and learn about
it or go to the GUE website (www.gue.com I think).
