Today,
amid reports of heaps snow falling on the San Francisco bay area... very
unusual...
We went to the beach at the extreme low tide.

Our beach is best known for Mavricks surf spot where last November a record
was set of 110feet of face on a single breaking wave. All the bottom becomes
visible when those puppies pull out to sea....

Today was different.

We went into the low coastal zone and had a look around.
We were able to walk out where most surfers dare not to paddle.
No diving, just tide pooling for the fun of it.

tomorrow isn't as good at:
2002-01-29 17:00 PST -1.43 feet Low Tide

Today, the best for me was two red Occies about 5 to 7 cm in length.
Young monkey face eels at about 10 cm long. Tons of fishes, nudibranches,
chitons, mollusks and more. Of course we see sea lions too. We expected to
go out for about an hour, three hours later we were in danger of the ranger
locking the gate - well after sunset. The only limit on mussels for dinner
is what's set by the state fish and game rules. Tons for everyone - well 10
pounds, anyway.

Boy, the sea is cool....and I didn't even take a camera..Boy.

Anyway, the big pleasure days can not always be predicted.

John

BTW, congrats on the new diver....Chuck. You can start at the tide pools.
>I have always been told by
>the parents how 'mature for their age' the kid is.

As a teacher, I no longer answer the phone calls from the parents of the
"prodigies"...too high a bs/truth ratio. They never know their kids, and ...
in the end, the kids never perform. Good luck.
