Had to go see the opening of "Men of Honor" - the movie about Navy
diving with Robert DeNiro and Cuba (whats-his-last-name?). It was a
decent movie, but if you are expecting diving adventures, it isn't for
you. The movie is a bit over 2 hours, but maybe 15-20 minutes of actual
diving. Sort of like "Officer and a Gentleman" to flying what this
movie does for diving, the story is centered not where you would
expect. With that said, still a good movie, and the diving parts are
rather technically correct; but no scuba here, it's all surface
supplied, hard-hat Mark-V type old Navy diving. In one scene you can
see the Mark-V emblem on the suit.
Also rather accurate, or at least convincing to me as a diver but not
one with any hardhat experience. Big deal about Boyle's law in the plot
(you'll see, I won't spoil it).
The bulk of the plot is the predjudice attitutes toward Cuba (the actor,
not the country) as the first black diver in the Navy, but
there is still a good diving story there.
Maybe worth seeing at the theatre for historical content. Just don't
expect it to be all diving or remotely scuba-related.
