On the plane to the gateway to Paradise in the South Pacific, I thought I
would use part of the 4-hr plane ride to file this TIMELY report, which
is very relevant to the recent head-bumping in Scuba-SE about such terms
as Orientals, Occidentals, Asians, yellow fellows, chink turds, etc. ...:-)

I was selected by the U.S. Census Bureau in a National Survey of College
Graduates for the National Science Foundation.

Somewhere along the lengthy survey came the questions about the RACE of
the Naturalized Citizens of the USA. The flowchart of the questions
suggests that the "classfications" are exhaustive, and this is how it goes:

E19: Hispanic or Latino?

Yes E20: 1. Mexican or Chicano
                    2. Puerto Rican
                    3. Cuban
                    4. Other Hispanic

No E21: 1. American Indian or Alaskan Native
                    2. Native Hawaii or Other Pacific Islander
                    3. Asian
                    4. Black or African American
                    5. White

It says the results of the survey will be in http://sestat.nsf.gov.

Soooooooooooo...

NB to Lee ........ no Orientals
NB to Mika ....... no Occidentals
NB to self ....... no Accidentals though I think at least 40% of the
                                   world population are Accidentals
NB to everybuddy .. ASIAN is the ONLY term for all ASIANS whether they
                    like it or not.
NB to Viv and Strike ... Aussies and NZs must be Pacific Islanders or
                    declare themselves White eh? :-)

NOW comes MY question -- which I actually included in the space provided
by the survey for comments about the Questionnaire:

What about those who are NON-White, NON-Black, NON-Asian, NON-Hispanic,
and NON-Pacific Islanders?

I wonder if I'll get a response to that question. :-)

I can think of at least a few in the categories that don't seemed to
have been covered by the survey:

Indian-Ocean, Antartic Ocean, and Arctic Ocean Islanders? Such as the
Elephant Island? :-) What about Greenland and other Atlantic Islanders?
What about a non-white, non-black, non-hispanic Jamaican Mon?

I'll have to wait till next month to review the verbal wrestling matches.
