Mate!  It seems to me that true DIR is an all-embracing concept that goes
far beyond just equipment configuration.  There's far more to it than that.
And because it's a term that's so often misused, the suggestion that anyone
not diving a DIR rigged set is unqualified to speak on the matter is to deny
the original questioner, Joe, (who didn't state what experience he has using
a variety of other equipment platforms), the right to a variety of views on
the topic:  Something that, it also seems to me, is essential if he's to be
in any sort of position to make an informed decision about its worth.

I don't think that that's ever been a barrier to the discussions about
diving that we've all enjoyed over the years on both Scuba-L and, now,
Scuba-SE!  :-)
