A MESSAGE FROM TIFFANY SMITH, STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE UT BOARD
OF TRUSTEES
Teaching Tennessee:
February 25th through March 1st every higher education
institution in TN will be hosting what has been dubbed
"TEACHING TENNESSEE." This collective effort will be
to help educate students, faculty, alumni, and
surrounding community about the future of higher
education if we continue down the current path of
inadequate funding.
The SGA and Governmental Affairs Commission is heading
up this week at UTC. Details are still falling into
place but we need help, even if you only have a little
time to give. This is not just UTC or the entire UT
system, but every state-funded college and university
in TN--representing well over 200,000 students.
Time is closing in so if you are interested in helping
at any capacity, please contact me, through a reply.
GAC meets Mondays at 4 in the UC, but we will be
meeting at other times as well during this next week.
You can help with one or more of the following:
-voter registration
-mail outs to alumni
-petitions in classes for students and faculty
-legislative letter-writing workshops
-high-school outreach
-local and school media coverage
and more... (details to follow soon).
We need everyone to help. This is your education we
are talking about, and even if you are graduating
soon, your diploma still says "The University of
Tennessee".
Thank you
Tiffany Smith
