STUDENT ALUMNI COUNCIL ANGEL TREE
The UTC Student Alumni Council in conjunction with the Tennessee
Department of Children's Services are sponsoring an Angel Tree for some
very special children this holiday season. A table in the University
Center will host cards with a hundred names of boys and girls along
with their holiday wishes. These tables will be set up in the
University Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the month of
November from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18th from
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., and Monday, November 22nd from 11:00 a.m. -
1:00 p.m.
If you would like to bring joy to a child in the Hamilton County
area this year, please drop by the table, pick up an Angel Tree card,
and help make their holiday season special.
The deadline to drop off Angel Tree gifts to the Alumni Office
(Patten House - 2nd Floor) is Wednesday, December 1st. Items on the
wish list should cost no more than $15 per child. When you pick a
name, it is then your responsibility to buy a gift for that child.
However, there is no limit to the number of names you can choose. Each
gift must be gift wrapped with the child's name and code on it. If
there are multiple gifts for a child, all the gifts must be attached or
placed together in a bag.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact
the Alumni Office at 425-4785 or a Student Alumni council
representative.

STUDENT GROUPS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN FUND RAISING ACTIVITY
The Chattanooga locations of Cheeburger Cheeburger Restaurant and First
Things First have teamed up for an exciting fundraiser. We would like
for your organization to be a part of it.
Each campus organization will be competing with each other to see
which organization can eat the most hamburgers over the remainder of the
semester. The competition will take place until December 6th. Whenever
you can, stop by either location of Cheeburger Cheeburger and grab some
lunch or dinner. Let your server know that you are a member of your
campus organization and leave the rest up to us. We will track each
group's progress and at the end of the competition, the winning
organization will receive a party at Cheeburger Cheeburger.
As a part of the competition, for every pound of hamburger eaten,
Cheeburger Cheeburger will donate $1 to First Things First. Money
raised will help First Things First provide individuals, families and
professionals with quality educational resources to equip them with
skills to build strong, long lasting relationships. FTF provides
workshops for fathers, couples preparing for marriage, and those who
have been married for years, stepfamilies, parents, professionals and
many others.
FTF began in 1997 when community leaders discovered that Hamilton
County's rates for divorce, out of wedlock pregnancies and
fatherlessness were astronomical Since FTF's inception in 1997,
Hamilton County's divorce filings are down 28 percent and there has
been a 16 percent decrease in the divorce rate. Teen Out of Wedlock
pregnancies are down 23 percent. Out of wedlock pregnancies for women
ages 20-44 are down slightly and there is an increase in fathers
participating in classes as well as reporting that they are getting the
message that they matter in their child's life.
