Hello,
As you may know, the Lupton Library is one of the few remaining
facilities on campus with computer access that is open to the general
public. As an
engaged metropolitan university library we strive to serve our
community users to the best of our abilities, recognizing that our
primary service is
to the students, faculty and staff of UTC. It is therefore with some
regret that I write that in the past six months the Library has
received a rising
number of complaints from our students and faculty regarding computer
use in the Library. As a result of these complaints, the Library's
Computer Use Committee has recommended, and I have endorsed, the move
to a login procedure for most computers in the Library. Please be
aware this is trend in academic and public libraries across the country
and that our compatriots at UT-Knoxville implemented a similar
procedure last Fall semester.
The reason for moving to a login are simple:
- to enhance the learning environment in the Library, and
- to ensure that the students, faculty, and staff of the University of
Tennessee at Chattanooga have access to Library computers.
Students, faculty, and staff will be prompted to enter a UTCID
(username) and Password. Five computers on the 1st floor of the
Library will remain
available to the community users who do not have a UTCID. As this is
a new procedure we will be evaluating its impacts. If you have any
questions or concerns about the new login procedures please do not
hesitate to contact me at [log in to unmask] or 423-425-4506.
Thanks and have a great day,
Theresa
