The UTC campus network has been experiencing Internet problems today due
to what appears to be an attack on a campus system from an off campus
site. The attack consists of a very large number of network packets
coming at a very high rate aimed at a campus server, which has the
effect of consuming the majority of the campus's Internet bandwidth.

We have mitigated the internal effects of this attack on the campus
network, but we have no control over the Internet side of the connection
so it continues to slow down access to the Internet and access from the
Internet to campus services (e.g. www.utc.edu, onenet, library, etc.)

We have contacted the appropriate network authorities in an attempt to
stop the attack. We are also in contact with Qwest, UTC's Internet
provider, to get help to limit the effects of the attack.

As of 2pm Qwest is helping to block the attack so UTC Internet access
should be working better now.

Thanks,
Richard
