TRANSFORMATION PROJECT OFFERS PLAY FOR LIVING
For decades, Partnership for Families, Children and Adults programming
has utilized the power of drama to affect changes in
viewers' attitudes and behaviors. The agency's Springboard Productions
(originally, Plays for Living) are the vehicle for
providing such experiences. A few years ago, when a search of existing
resources failed to produce plays on topics thought relevant
by staff, playwright Barry Bradford was commissioned to create them.
"It's Love, Isn't It?" is the third drama written by Bradford,
in collaboration with area professionals and community volunteers and
with funding grants from Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga and the
Tennessee Arts Commission.
The UTC premiere performance of the play, "It's Love, Isn't It?"
will be held at 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 20th in the UC Auditorium.
This "powerful programming resource" is brought to you by the UTC
Transformation Project as a part of the UTC Domestic/Dating Violence
Awareness Week. There will be a facilitated discussion following the
performance. Admission is free, so come join us and bring friends.
"It's Love, Isn't It?" was written for teen and young adult
audiences, as were Bradford's first two plays, "Who Am I ?" (topic:
eating
disorders) and "Crossing the Line" (topic: acquaintance rape). The
story chronicles the gradual victimization too often confused with
love by teens, many of whom have demonstrated, in surveys, "a
shockingly high level of tolerance for the use of violence." **
Among high school and college students, an alarming 28% say that they
have experienced dating violence. Many, the majority of whom are
female, report that they have experienced one or more violent acts,
such as pushing, grabbing, choking, punching, slapping, being forced to
have sex, insults, threats to harm family or property, humiliation,
suicide threats and and/or monitoring of their
movements. Even more alarming is the frequently expressed view that
such abusive behavior is "a normal expression of love.""

UTC ON THE MOVE CONTINUES
Our 2000 step noon walks will continue through Wednesday this week.
Please consider joining us at 12:10 each day to enjoy a guided paced
walk around campus. We have four different 2000 step routes to choose
from--ranging from Easy Does It (23 minute pace) to Hard Core (13
minute pace)--so we have a route that is just right for you!

The guided walks leave from the new covered entrance of the University
Center (near Maclellan Gym) each day at 12:10. If it is just overcast,
but not raining, we will meet at the University Center to walk outside.
If it is raining at the time that the walk is scheduled to begin, we
will meet at the main entrance of the McKenzie Arena (Gate #1) and we
will walk around the concourse inside the Arena.

RETENTION AND ADVISEMENT OFFICE HAS RELOCATED
This is a follow-up message to the community regarding our recent move.
The Retention and Advisement Office has moved to the University
Center, Room 278 (New Dept. # 2002). We have merged with the Adult
Services Center. Due to the centralized location, currently enrolled,
returning, and transfer students can access our services easier and
faster.
Combining our resources allows us to assist with:
    * academic advising for undecided majors
    * counseling them regarding their advisement/developmental holds
    * registering students
    * tutoring for 100 and 200 level courses in biology, chemistry, math
and physics
    * printing RAPSHEETS
    * providing computers for students to access the course timetable
and their Onenet accounts
We hope that by merging with Adult Services all students will be better
served.
