To all students, faculty, and staff:

This message is to inform all campus e-mail users that a
new anti-spam solution is being put into place and to
process new incoming mail. The purpose of implementing this
technology is due to the overwhelming volume of e-mail being
received. You may have noticed the extended delay in receiving
off campus e-mail. The new system has been designed to combat
the current volume of spam and has the ability to scale with
future growth. The Information Technology Division would like
to provide you with information that will help you better
manage your spam on this new system.

Please realize the delay in delivering off campus e-mail
will not disappear immediately. There will be a phased cut
over to the new system starting today. Once the cut over
is complete, we expect the extended delays to disappear
and mail to be processed much more rapidly.

Starting Friday morning you may receive a daily quarantine*
report sent to your inbox. The report will be sent to you
only if new e-mail has been flagged as spam. You will have
the opportunity to take any of the following actions from
within that e-mail:

- Delete - This action will delete the message from your
quarantine*. If you chose not to take any action on messages
in your quarantine they will automatically be deleted after
7 days from the time they arrive.

- Deliver - This action delivers the message sitting in
quarantine* to your inbox (this action is only good for that
one email).

- Always Allow - This action will add the sender of the
email to your "Allow List" (aka: WhiteList) so that messages
from that sender in the future will not be quarantined.

*Quarantine - a holding place for messages marked as
possible spam

NOTE: If you do NOT see any messages listed in the report
that matter to you, you may safely ignore the report.

For more detailed information you will find a user
guide that we have prepared for you at the following
website: http://itd.utc.edu/spam/guardian.pdf

If you would rather manage your quarantine directly,
you may click on the link in the report that says
"Click here to manage your quarantine".

If you had previously "whitelisted" email senders on the
cuda anti-spam solution, you may want to add the same email
addresses into the new solution. See the user guide for
details.

If you have trouble with email, or other computing technology
issues, please notify the IT Support Help Desk. For
contact information, see: http://itd.utc.edu/contactus.php/
