To improve the delivery of email to all UTC Students and eliminate
the need for students to continually change off campus email
addresses, all email sent to UTC email addresses for students
will be kept on UTC's email system. As of Nov. 6 email may no
longer be forwarded to off campus email accounts such as gmail
or hotmail. This will not be a change for anyone who is already
getting UTC email in My Email (in the UTC onenet web portal)
and is not forwarding to an non UTC email account.

You can get your UTC email by logging on the http://www.utc.edu/
home page. Once you are in the web portal, click on My Email
(under Quick Links) to get to your UTC email.

The quota (maximum) for student email boxes has been doubled from
25 Mb to 50 Mb to allow more email to be stored on campus. It is
important to clean out email after you read it so your UTC email
box won't fill up and bounce messages back to the sender. For this
reason we suggest not using your UTC email box for much personal
email but only for UTC related messages.

To make it easier to minimize the amount of email in your UTC
email box we are changing the default in My Email to provide a
simple one-step delete instead of the current two-step process
of delete, then purge. If you prefer the two-step process you
can change it back by selecting No to "Purge Immediate" on the
Mailbox Management tab of the Options menu in My Email. If you
still encounter the two-step process, you can change it to the
one-step process by saying "Yes" to "Purge Immediate".

The Options menu in My Email is in the bar at the top of the
window next to Exit. There is also a ? Help button in the same
place that explains how to use the Preferences and Rules (i.e.
Options).

The Options tab in My Email lets you select several other
features:

For example, you can create a folder and use the Rules tab on
Options to filter mail from a person or subject into a special
folder instead of your inbox. Please note, however, that all
mail, including your inbox and all other mail folders in My
Email, count against your 50 Meg. quota.

Options also lets you change the number of messages displayed
on one page. For many people this change makes My Email
friendlier to use.

Thanks for your attention to these changes,
Richard
