CHILDREN'S BOOK COLLECTION
The Golden Key International Honor Society and Mortar Board are collecting children’s books in order to help build a small library for the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga.

We are collecting anything that can get store credit at McKay’s Used Bookstore. This means old cd’s (compact discs) videotapes & textbooks . We will be taking all to McKay’s and trading the donations in for children’s books. There will be a table set up in the lobby of the University Center on Wednesday s from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. through the end of March.

Please help us in supporting the local Boys and Girls Club. If you would like to set up a box with your student organization or in any of the buildings, please email us at [log in to unmask] .

IN THE CRESS GALLERY
Brian Rutenberg: Paintings
Thru Mar. 11, 2004
Gallery hours are M-F 9:30 am - 5:00 pm. The Gallery also opens at 6:30pm during all Patten Series Performances.

Painter Brian Rutenberg was born in South Carolina where he spent his childhood. He holds a BFA from the College of Charleston, in Charleston, S.C. and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, NYC. A Fulbright Scholarship provided him seven months in Ireland, drawing, painting, and studying Celtic history and art. He now lives and works in New York City where he is represented by the Forum Gallery. One of his more recent solo exhibitions was a ten-year retrospective held in the well known and respected spaces of the Butler Institute of American Art.

His paintings are interpretive, expressionistic landscapes, full of deep color and rich with painterly movement. Poet and author William Corbett writes "Brian Rutenberg began as a painter 'whose name was writ in water'. He has evolved into one who is simultaneously earthbound and up in the aether where a fey and paradisiacal polar light sometimes shines. His painting is American in its expansiveness and faith that nature has redemptive powers. To release these Rutenberg puts rough physicality in the service of the sublime." Robert Fishko, director of the Forum Gallery describes Rutenberg as " prolific, serious, intelligent, and thoughtful..."
