Tomorrow evening, Tuesday, October 7, the second presidential debate is
scheduled at Belmont University in Nashville from 9-10:30 pm. UTC will
join five other Tennessee higher education campuses that night for a
Debate Watch featuring a live videoconference of students throughout the
state assessing the statements of Senators McCain and Obama on the
issues of healthcare, the Iraq war and foreign policy, the economy,
education, and energy.

The UTC Debate Watch will occur in the University Center Auditorium with
coffee and light refreshments provided by the College of Arts & Sciences
and the Student Government Association. The Political Science Club is
sponsoring the campus-wide event. Dr. Bob Swansbrough will serve as the
UTC facilitator.

Microphones and cameras will communicate the reactions of UTC students
to the presidential contenders' remarks without the influence of
campaign "spin doctors" or TV pundits. In addition, afterwards the
comments from students on each campus air on TV stations throughout
Tennessee.

The other campuses participating in the six-campus Debate Watch TV
linkup are: UT Knoxville, UT Martin, University of Memphis, Tennessee
State, and East Tennessee State University. The Howard H. Baker Jr.
Center for Public Policy at UTK organized the overall Debate Watch.
