A variant of the Nachi/Welchia computer worm has begun infecting
campus computers at an alarming rate. Network Services has taken
defensive measures to try to limit the outbreak and is also shutting
down the network jack for computers that are infected.

In some cases, these defensive measures may mean Windows file sharing
will be prevented from working (since this capability is how the worm
infects other machines).

Infected machines will require the Help Desk to clean them before
they can be reconnected to the campus network.

PLEASE, run Windows Update on your computer and install ALL critical
updates to prevent these infections from continuing.
