Are you interested in teaching English to young people in Japan?  Do you
have an interest in education, the country of Japan, and are you willing
to study Japanese?  The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) offers
new graduates and young professional around the world the opportunity to
participate in international exchange and foreign language education in
local governments, boards of education, and in elementary, junior and
senior high schools throughout Japan.

UTC will host representatives from the Japanese Consulate in Nashville
to talk about application procedures for the JET program. Come to an
information session at UTC on Tuesday, October 27, from 1:30 p.m.-2:30
p.m. in the University Center, Signal Mountain Room.  Come learn about
how you might get involved in this exciting program.  At least 15 UTC
students have already participated in JET in years past, and one recent
grad is currently working and teaching in Japan after attending last
year's JET session.

Applicants should:

*have an excellent command of the English language

*a bachelor's degree by July 2010

*be under the age of 40

*submit proof of American citizenship with the application.

Participants receive approximately $40,300 at current exchange rates and
may be exempt from paying U.S. taxes.  The JET Program contracts are for
one year (summer to summer), and suitable participants will be allowed
to renew their contracts up to four times.

Orientation, language training, a work visa, housing assistance, and
insurance are provided.  Travel expenses to Japan are covered.
