Join the Study Abroad Office as Mr. Takeo Suzuki, Executive Director of the International Programs Office, discusses how to compose a competitive essay for the Gilman Study Abroad scholarships and tips for applying.



What is the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship?



The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad.



Over 2,800 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study or intern abroad.



Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken will automatically be considered for the Critical Need Language Award, for a total award of $8,000. Languages include: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.



Eligibility:



·        Be a citizen of the United States



·        Be an undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States (including both two-year and four-year institutions);



·        Be receiving a Federal Pell Grant
