John,
Excellent point. You are in the OpenMPE-L because of your 25 years of
history with the HP3000 and MPE and find it hard to tear yourself away. So
it is giving you that value. Granted that value is probably not worth
spending very much to get. Right now anybody can become a member of OpenMPE
at no cost. So is it worth $0 to you? I concede that the value proposition
is a little one sided in this example. Clearly the community will get more
value from your experience then you will get directly in return. Still your
opinions expressed through the list and through your vote would be great if
you can see you way clear to spending nothing for it ;)
Thanx,
Jon

Jon,
I can answer that for me, though I'm sure everyone else would have there own
reasons. I listen to the OpenMPE-L kind of like I would watch a soap opera,
if I were so inclined. I just listen to it out of curiosity and intrigue to
see the story unfold and where it's going. At the $500 price tag, I as a
hobbyist won't be getting Mpe and an emulator to play with. Since my company
moved away from Mpe 2 years ago, we really have no stake in where it goes,
but with 25 years of history with the HP3000 and MPE, I find it hard to tear
myself away.
So, why am I not a member of OpenMPE? Because it would give me no value.
