Donna -

I received multiple queries as to whether Linux had the ability to support
MPE's concept of files, directory structure, and capabilities. Some
questions were already answered in previous posts. Many do not seem to
understand the power of Linux to host an MPE user mode environment. The XFS
posting was to help visualize the possibilities. There are other file
systems available, some are probably just as adequate. I have an open mind
for other file system options.

I have made a proposal to create an MPE user mode environment. I have been
open for discussion. At this point, I am not aware of any major problem.
If you are aware of any, please let me know.

I am guessing that a way to execute MPE PA-RISC binaries on at least Intel
compatible hardware will be necessary. So far, no one has offered a list of
binary only, must have applications/utilities. I would guess that some
critical 3rd party vendors are not willing to recompile their source for
execution on Intel/MPE platform, necessitating a solution. Finding someone
to lead this effort may be a problem, I don't know yet.

So what have I posted that is inappropriate for OpenMPE? Is the problem
that I am not an OpenMPE board member? Ideas not officially endorsed by the
board?

Checks and balances? The board is open, and I have requested feedback
knowing I can't think of everything. There are some excellent technical
capability lurking on this discussion group, and they are certainly welcome
to poke holes in my ideas. I'm sure you know a few. If you want checks and
balances, this discussion board is open and no one is getting overwhelmed at
this point with the number of postings.

- Pete
