Sorry, I've been out of the loop for a while, thanks to emergency surgery
and subsequently being out of work (still am...)
But recuperating has given me far too much time to think.... and I can't
help but wonder (only semi-out-of-the-box) - if Non-Stop is HP's
under-touted but intended 'flagship' for enterprise-level processing and
relational dbms - how about encouraging an alternative port to that
environment? If nothing else, that would have the potential for providing
the batch processing, scheduling, and spoolfile management pieces of the
puzzle that are presently missing or lacking there, could provide HP another
avenue to sell the Non-Stop environment, preserving so much of the customer
and 3rd-party software investment, and at the same time offer an opportunity
for the HPUX customers who are facing losing their investment in Allbase to
pursue something other than a migration to Oracle or some other 3rd-party
dbms.
If HP is so interested in 'keeping it in the family', there needs to be a
'family member' that offers the scope, capacity, and productivity to do the
job for the large operations.... especially if HP wants to go head-to-head
with IBM.
