Robert (SRI),
Thank-you for joining in from a VAX emulator (and potential PA-RISC
emulator) prospective. You mentioned two different prices based on the host
platform. Are these two different prices for the VMS license or the
CHARON-VAX emulator license?
On a similar note, I'd like to hear the thoughts of the three possible
PA-RISC emulator vendors (Allegro, SRI, and Strobe Data) on pricing
structure. Let's assume for a minute that HP does come out with the single
flat price for a new MPE license and one for a license transfer. Are any of
you thinking along the lines of a hobbyist (or non-production) version of
the emulator (at very low cost) as well as a professional (or production)
version (at a more "business like" cost)? If so, what might be your
criteria for distinguishing the two and limited the use of the "hobbyist"
version?
Thanx,
Jon

Note that the VMS / layered products transfer license to run on CHARON-VAX
that we obtained from CompaqHP is a flat fee one. It only depends on the new
host platform: 1000$ for Windows, Linux etc. hosts and 500$ for
OpenVMS/Alpha hosts.
The fee is independent of the VAX model emulated or host system performance.
