You are of course assuming those 3rd party vendors are still in business and
are willing to support software on an obsoleted platform. Without SSConfig
abandonware becomes tied to a single piece of hardware.

I personally do not expect to see many 3rd party vendors actively supporting
their 3000 applications to far into the future, which will make this an
important consideration.
