Gavin make a point that I think some may be missing:
There are (at least) two cost components to the MPE emulator:
1. The cost of the emulator (Gavin's "some thousands of dollars")
2. The cost of the license from HP for the right to run MPE on the emulator.
So, while the combined cost will be much, much less than the cost of
migration or replacement, it will cost substantially more than $500-$1000
for production use of an emulated 3000.
