jon had originally wanted openmpe to be non-profit (very much like a
charity).  in light of the current business climate (think enron and
accounting abuses) and because openmpe was seeking to take-over a
business from a for-profit company -- the irs would not grant openmpe

that is why openmpe is a not-for-profit organization.  it was a
necessary and pragmatic decision.

isn't bcbs a not-for-profit?  i think so....many healthcare providers
are.

i'm advocating for openmpe to persue this type of infrastructure model
(or something similar).

it's going to take an enormous about of work to get openmpe off the
ground.  think about all the mpe os engineers that have moved on --
they need to be replaced.  think about the mpe build process -- openmpe
needs to learn and master the process.  and what about patching?  and
drivers?  maybe enormous isn't a big enough word....       - d
