Even though I've publicly raised the bar setting what HP should do
significantly past the OpenMPE "gang of six" (see my September 3000 Newswire
net.digest column, or Burke's Manifesto for HP distributed at HPWorld), I
want to say I agree with Mark and others that significant progress has been
made and should not be discounted.

The idea that someone would imply Mark Klein wants to kill MPE would be
laughable if we had not just seen it come across this list.

If it were not for the work of Mark Klein, there would be no gnu on MPE,
which means there would be no Apache/iX, there would be no Samba/iX, there
would be no Sendmail/iX, and on and on. In fact, I really believe 11/14/2001
would have happened sooner without the contributions of Mark and others.

Let's return some civility to the debate. I'm disappointed HP has not gone
further and I will continue to push and prod it to do more, but I'm relieved
they've at least opened the door to a future for MPE. This should not be
sneered at.
