In a nutshell, my gut feeling about these items :

> * No plans to enable 9000s to be converted to 3000s
Bad idea. Being able to convert used/remarketed 9000s into 3000s would
significantly extend the availability of PA-RISC availability.
> * No plans to release an "Open Source" version of MPE
Good idea. Open-sourcing MPE would reduce its consistency. We don't need a
Red Hat MPE, a Mandrake MPE, a Turbo MPE, a SuSe MPE, etc. We need an
OpenMPE. ONE and only ONE.
> * No plans to make SSCONFIG publicly available
If we can't have SS_CONFIG (which is acceptable), we need at least a way to
reset CPU IDs in case we have to change a board AFTER 12/31/2006. E.g. we
replace a CPU board, whatever.
> * No plans to make MPE/iX 7.0 or 7.5 available on 9x7 hardware
These old boxes cost a fortune to maintain anyway, so I'd give in on this
one.
> * No plans to increase the performance level of existing platforms.
Uncrippling (totally or partially) A-Classes would provide a good
performance boost for the future. We anticipate that customers will still
need some performance increases AFTER 12/2003. Uncrippling would do it.
It would also do a lot in restoring / enhancing customer faith in HP.
