Last above is WAY out of line: Very few people have
devoted as much time and effort to supporting the 3000
over the last 25+ years as Mark Klein. He continues to
do so today; and mostly on his own time no less.
Presenting his perspective and experience in a calm
and reasoned manner most certainly does NOT deserve a
few "four letter words". The fact that Mark sees
several things that were mentioned as "water under the
bridge"; and that Mark and Wirt disagree on whether or
not it would be desireable or even possible to "back
out" POSIX from MPE and etc.; does NOT mean that he is
somehow anti-MPE... Given above words, I have to think
some people are still having trouble separating what
they wish and hope would have happened / would happen
from what a little logical analysis of the real world
sez did and can / might still happen...

SIDEBAR: While not a serious POSIX user (directly),
I'm clearly with Mark on this one: TurboIMAGE JUMBO
files are POSIX files. POSIX has been "intertwined"
with MPE on a low-level in who knows how many places.
"Backing POSIX out now" would be a huge job... Who
would do it ??.. Not HP, in the last 13 months prior
to end of HP sales (I would certainly be adamently
against trying to get HP to do it at this point; with
all the other stuff we still need them to do).

I think everyone needs to keep a couple basic facts in
front of them:

(1) HP (as Mark accurately stated) is exiting the MPE
business; "final exit" to be some time around the end
of CY 2006 or shortly thereafter. It is a waste of time
and energy to try and fundamentally reverse that decision
at this point.

(2) The manner in which they exit and the extent to
which they will "open up MPE" *before* that EXIT are
still on the table and still being actively discussed;
and will continue to be so for at least some months yet.
Getting the "best deal" for interim and long-term
Homesteaders while that exit is in progress is what we
should focus on.
