while this is possibly the wrong forum, bingo; I sure hope the gods at HP
are watching (and paying attention).

Why can't HP get over the idea that THEY are the police, and simply verify
that their license exists? The only reason I see is that they've kept
internal departments too isolated and procedure-laden.

If I'm willing to stick my name on it, that's a pretty good hint that it's
not stolen, but if it is, I'm giving the real police a pretty good idea
where to find it.

I'm also pointing out its current location to HP, in case they're worried
that this long-lost box is out there running in ssconfig-improved mode and
they feel like subpoenaing the box to check it.

I don't CARE who bought the license, only that it exists. HP, being the
issuing party to that license, should be able to freely acknowledge its
existence and content, specifically excepting confidential customer info
unless need-to-know arises in the context of law enforcement. And my simple
affidavit declaring ownership should be more than plenty for them to
transfer an existing license-to-run.

Grr!
