In DBUTIL >DETACH IMAGE-BASE does not delete DBEs it just detaches them from the database.

ahh -- the semantics of wording -- for my purposes by "deletes the (non-existent) DBE" I meant "deletes the reference from the dbnameTC file", not delete the file from the disk [the account doesn't exist anyway...]

Also you can try IMAGESQL SET TURBODB database name then SET SQLDBE sqldbe name then DETACH

because the account doesn't exist, you cannot specify the DBE to detach...
