Paul,

Agreed on HP's history, but for the initial sake of this discussion, let's
assume a single number. So, getting back to the original question, "What is
a reasonable single price for a new MPE license and a transferred MPE
license to whatever the buyer wants to run it on?" A couple possibilities I
through out were $500/$200 and $1000/$500 for new/transfer.

Thanx,
        Jon

Knowing the past history with HP, we have to consider a tier pricing model
option. They will.

Paul,

Similar to my response to Riley (mistakenly said Ryan in the email -
Sorry), let's assume it doesn't matter from an MPE licensing prospective.
There has always been a lot of complaining about tier pricing. What if HP
allowed a single price for a new MPE license to be created and a single
price for an existing MPE license to be transferred?

Thanx,
        Jon

Should it be platform dependant? PC vs. Server.

Subject: [OPENMPE] MPE Licensing

In the spirit of moving this topic along, let's have a hypothetical
discussion. HP already said at HPWorld that they would allow for the
creation of new MPE licenses and there is already a process in place for the
transferring of existing licenses. Let's assume for the sake of discussion
that there WILL be a fee for MPE license creation and transfer.

What I believe to be the most critical part is the cost for these
two
items. I believe this will determine the viability for the emulator
companies to move forward. So, what is a reasonable cost, recognizing that
this would be a "one time" cost? Let's have some discussion about what we,
the community, consider to be reasonable cost (given that $0 is not an
option) to purchase a new MPE license to run on what ever the purchaser
chooses to run it on. Also, what is a reasonable cost to transfer an
existing MPE license from HP e3000 hardware to what ever the purchaser
chooses to run it on. Naturally, cheaper is better, but let's be realistic
in the discussion. For example, is $500 for a new license and $200 for a
transfer acceptable? What about $1000 (new) and $500 (transfer)?
