        Very good, level headed thinking.  Computing should always be
about using the best tool for the job and OpenMPE is about making sure
that MPE remains one of those tools that you get to choose.

Perhaps it is time to drop the whole homesteading/migration paradigm and
focus instead on fitting our MPE systems into the diverse collection of
platforms that most IT shops have become? To me the best solution is to
focus on the strengths of the various platforms while enhancing the
communication between them.

For example:

I can run the Apache web server on my MPE box but, when compared to the
performance and flexibility of Apache running on Linux, the MPE version
falls further behind the Linux version every day.

At the same time Linux cannot currently touch MPE/Image in data
intergrity or batch operations on large amounts of data.

Homesteading and migration are opposite ends of the spectrum. There is a
middle ground that could preserve the original investment on the 3000
while complimenting it, where appropriate, with newer technologies that
HP neglected. Topics on selective migration as opposed to total
migration would be of more use in this area.
