Wirt,

I agree completely that the true test of the announcement will be in the
details, but I disagree that we have not made any real progress since
November 15th. I don't have to cross the finish line before I can say that
I have left the starting line. If HP had announced that they will never
consider licensing MPE/iX to run on anything other then the existing HP
PA-RISC hardware, labeled "e3000", and will not allow the issuing of new
MPE/iX licenses for anything after October 2003 - then we would be dead in
the water. Based on the announcements listed below we have clearly left the
starting line but there is plenty of road ahead of us.

Thanx,
        Jon

In this case, no matter how much a cliche it is, the devil truly does lie in
the details. It's always been possible for third-parties to move ahead with
the creation of an emulator, but if the "fees and process for licenses"
remains "still to be determined", we haven't made any real progress since
November 15th, when an emulator was first proposed. No one is going to do
anything substantial until terms that are deemed favorable to the community
are set in stone -- or at least in the blood of a half dozen lawyers.
