Jon:
Thanks for your work on the board. Our group wishes you all the best in
your new endeavors.
I haven't been very vocal on this site but have been listening from the
beginning. Our group of companies has been providing software for the
HP3000 since 1972 (hard to admit, really) and we have a great deal of
interest in what happens to MPE since we have invested heavily in
building solutions for the HP3000 system under MPE. We hate to see 30
years of expertise evaporate.
The decision by HP to eliminate the platform on which we make our living
has forced us to re-define our companies (which is not always a bad
thing). As a result we are moving toward using our 30 years of expertise
to build application frameworks for Visual Studio .NET (hanging on the
coat-tails of MS rather than HP). The initial release of the framework
(2003) provides all the building blocks needed to jump start application
development and get right into the meat of the app development without
having to worry about building or re-building the infrastructure. This
can reduce the app development budget by $100,000 or more and can
shorten the app-to-market time by months.
We are using the Milltown Application Framework (www.milltown.ca) to
re-engineer ERP (and other) apps for our clients and for our own
internal needs. Using ODBC to the e3000 and Visual Studio we mirror the
newly re-engineered app with the e3000 app and slowly migrate away from
the e3000 without the trauma of cold-turkey app changes.
For what it's worth.
