Hi all,

Just a friendly reminder to fill out the MPE/iX patching/updating survey
found at:
  http://www.hpuseradvocacy.org/

So far 33 people have participated but one of the responses looks pretty
bogus to me, so I am excluding it in my analysis -- if you answered that
you have 10 9x7s, 90 9x9s, 15 99xs, and 10 N-classes please contact me.

Summary so far (N=32):
- 75% of the respondents have 9x7s, 9x8s or A-classes boxes
- 50% (16) of the sites have one or more 9x7s with the total # of 9x7s
being 25% of the survey total
- 70% of those on 6.5 say they would update their system for a SIB-like
patch
- most of the respondents (97%) are on 7.0, and most of them (87%) would
update
their system for a SIB-like patch
- 66% of the respondents are on 7.5, and 2/3 (=14) of them have applied
one or more SIB
  patches
- 75% of the respondents are or will be on 7.5, and 63% (=15) plan on
installing
a SIB path within the next year.

I was surprised by two things -- no, not the number of 9x7s, which I
expected given the self-selection aspect of this survey and the audience
it's been advertised to:

1) 14 sites on 7.5 have applied one or more 7.5 SIB patches. How come we
are having so much trouble getting these patches to GR status? Is this
14 number accurate? Are these customers installing the SIB patches but
not reporting back to HP?

2) Everyone who filled out the survey except one has at least one system
on 7.0. In thinking about back-porting some of the SIB patches, I have
thought that we might be able to exclude 7.0 since the update from 7.0
to 7.5 is straight forwards (at least that's my impression). So how come
so many who responded to this survey are still on 7.0?

This survey will be removed next week so please take a few minutes (it's
short) to respond. I'd really like to have a sample size greater than
32!

Thanks,
 Jeff

Working with HP and Interex, the HP User Advocacy Steering Committee has
put together a survey on MPE, specifically aimed at MPE 9x7 and other
issues regarding an understanding of your MPE/iX patching and/or
updating plans and requirements over the next 1-2 years.

Please take a few minutes to follow the link below to fill out the
survey.

This survey was put together after comments on this issue were seen on
the 3000L and in the annual World Wide Survey of HP Customers that was
completed last month. Thanks to Jeff Vance & Debbie Lawson-Kirkwood
from HP for their support in getting the survey together.

Please note that you will need to create a login to the HP User Advocacy
site to fill out the survey. This allows us to capture your
demographics once and validate the survey for HP. It also allows you to
post issues and also to vote on existing issues with out the need to
fill out demographics again.

Note, there is an open comments box at the end of the survey where you
can provide additional information to HP.

After you fill out the survey, take time to look around our newly
designed web site. The HP User Advocacy Steering Committee offers a
quick voice into HP. FYI, the Interex HP-UX SysAdmin SIG has moved
their SIB balloting to the site for the past two years. They have had
great success getting items looked at by HP and also getting answers to
the requests and also other issues that have come up over the year. In
fact, you can submit and issue today and if 5 other people "vote" for
the same issue, HP has made a commitment to look at the issue and
respond within 30 days (even if it is to say they are looking into it!).

Also, feel free to e-mail or call me with questions on the site, etc.
We've just launched the newest version of the site this past Monday and
we hope we've gotten all the kinks out :)
