John -

If you can believe the sale info on MPUX, it is not only possible, but is done!

I just want to see an open source version that doesn't ride on the
fate and whim of a single company. I would like to see the
participation from some of the HP3000 3rd party companies for 2
reasons: 1) They would benefit financially from an ongoing and
healthy MPE community; and 2) They have some of the best technical
minds around. I am not against them making a buck, and would be happy
for them to do so with add-ons. I just want to see the environment
open source so that no one can "take their ball and go home, ending
the game". Plus with open source, you multiply your technical
development and support capabilities.
