Patrick is absolutely right.
It's way too early to make a determination on what the price elasticity curve
would look like on the Emulated 'MPE platform'.
From a tools vendor perspective I would appreciate Gavin's (and/or SRI's)
efforts to preserve both HPSUSAN and HPCPUNAME variables. Others, which probably
include a majority of the vertical application providers, would continue to
maintain User-based licensing schemes.
Considering Gavin’s “It's kind of an all-or-nothing deal. If you can run
anything then you can probably run everything.” remark, to a vendor would also
suggest that their licensing/piracy prevention scheme would work properly.
Would it be a show-stopper for third-party software players (if not implemented)
- it's hard to predict.
Waiting to hear from HP on all important DETAILS of the announcement,
Simon Tsalyuk (I am a vendor, but not of the TV fame yet)
