To All OpenMPE Members:
The decision to not release the vote counts was a Board decision. Upon
reflection this seems to have been a poor choice. We are presently polling
the Board to reverse that initial decision. So far, the only reason I have
heard for not releasing the vote counts was that we did not do it last
year, which I do not think is a very good basis for making any decision.
(We had forgotten that we did release the vote counts for the 2004
election.) I cannot think of any important reason to not release the vote
counts for 2006.
So far, the Board is voting by E-mail affirmatively to release the vote
counts. I predict that they will be released next week. We appreciate our
members interest in this process and will keep you informed.
