Yes, I thought so also.
But you can't put newgrp in a script.
Well, you can, but that ends the script because newgrp issues a
new shell.
For users that may have multiple group assignments, I wanted
to create a script that they can run which would place them
into the correct group, run the application(s), and hopefully
when they exit, return them to their starting point.
I didn't want to require all users of my app to have their primary
group be the required one.
Other than newgrp, it appears that you can't change your group.
Thats when I remembered the setgid bit.
