Dear Mr. Collongy,

Please send me before September 7 an impartial comparison of the
HP3000 with MPE/iX systems+ IMAGE SQL vs. HP Unix or Windows NT + Oracle
DBMS.

Our current system is: HP 3000 GX 4 MB RAM 670 MB on 3 disks, Turbo Image,
programming language Pascal, UIF: VPLUS forms handled by HiLi intrinsics
from Pacal programs. The HP has 16 serial ports. Our worst problem is that
these ports serve users in a distance 100..300 m with 2400..9600 baud
connected by copper wires. The remore users have PC-s with AdvanceLink.
Around the HP we have 3 HP 700/92 termin
Some of these lines work weel, some of them are noisy, some of them are
completely dead. (And the departments on the other end belong to an other
firm, whom we cannot agree who should pay for a new cable. While I was
writing this letter, a typist phoned me that her line is deaf again. I
could not answer her anything else that she should wait or type in her
data from a more reliable terminal.)

We have to upgrade to a central HP storing the database which can be used
from anywhere in
Budapest, from a public internet line, or a private government line.

Our other problem is the lack of the personnel, so we want to avoid
extensive reprogramming and reorganizing of our data base.

On the other hand, the complete reprogramming and rethinking of our system
would help me get rid of nightmares found out by people who escaped from
our institute to a better paid place, but their fixa idea survived because
of the stiff nature of the Turbo Image. (We had only a demo copy of
Adager, living for six months.)
