In reality, Wellington saved nothing. You guys in Britain and other
English-speaking countris are all well versed in my language. Yes, you had
chargés d'affaires negotiating the Entente Cordiale, which is as true today
as it ever got. You Brits (abbreviation for practical purposes, no offense
meant) have a prime minister who is fluent in French (he showed his skills
on prime-time French TV, undubbed, a few months back - I was quite
impressed) and often vacations in France (Hmmm ... ever heard of a French PM
vacationing in Britain ?). Now, have another look at your papers (I know
that you guys in Britain read a lot of dailies), especially the World News /
Diplomacy pages, and you'll occasionally stumble on French words. And if you
don't really get the meaning of the said word, don't worry - most French
people don't either.

Now, let's get back to our regularly scheduled program : how to be a
Republican.

Hmmm ... BTW, there are about 99% of Republicans in France these days ....

And while I'm at it ... I was, at best, highly amused, and, at worst,
totally appalled, by all the fuss after Janet J showed her right boob on TV.
So what's in a boob, after all ? well, it's gonna make the talking heads
talk, which is what they are here for, litterally ... But still, remember,
it's just a boob ! Oh, BTW, let's assume Janet J is NOT black. Who thinks
the outcry would have been different ? If, say, Demi Moore or any other
prominent white female had shown a normally hidden piece of flesh on
prime-time TV ? Now, that's hypocrisy at its highest level "Hide this breast
that I ought not to see" (Molière) ... but the Puritan still peeps between
his fingers covering his face ....
