Some additional info:
The instructions provided by a well know 'defrag' tool vendor, regarding
running FSCHECK, is in error. There is a semicolon ';' *missing* before
the 'IGNORE' parameter. The instructions should read:
RUN FSCHECK.MPEXL.TELESUP
CHECKDIRC ALL ;IGNORE
CHECKLABEL ALL ;IGNORE
CHECKEXTENTS ALL
EXIT
I have brought this to the vendor's attention and was told that the changes
would be made and communicated to their customers.
Assuming that Grant is using the same product (his statements seem to
indicate that he is) this is *not* to say that if the ';IGNORE' had been
specified the damage to his directory would not have occurred. I'm only
trying to dispel the impression that one *has* to call the RC before
running FSCHECK. After the system is placed in the state suggested by HP
for safe execution of FSCHECK the utility can be run and the file system
checked (ignoring any errors). If errors are detected then the RC can be
called for advice.
