Hi all,

I am planning to replace the disk drives currently making up the system
volume set (2 - 1GB SE SCSI drives A2445A) with newer SCSI drives (4 -
2GB SE SCSI-2 drives A3304A). There is also a nonsystem volume set
  configured which will remain unchanged.

I have already added two of the new disk drives into the system, and
and they are currently in the "UNKNOWN" state. I now need to replace
LDEV1 and LDEV 2, configure the four disks as the system volume set,
  and restore the files.

These are the steps I have outlined to do this. Could you look through
them and make any corrections / offer suggestions that would help, or
might make things safer and go more smoothly?

  TIA for all your help!

                    Chris

DISK DRIVE REPLACEMENT (incl LDEV 1) STEPS

1 - Use BULDACCT utility to create BULDJOB1 and BULDJOB2 files.

2 - Create an SLT, also a full backup with the ;DIRECTORY option.

     FILE T;DEV=TAPE
     STORE @[log in to unmask]@;*T;DIRECTORY;ONVS=MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET,CVC_VOLUME_SET

3 - Use VSTORE and verify the backup.

4 - Make configuration changes in SYSGEN for LDEV 1 and LDEV 2
with MDEV specifying ID=product ID (HOLD & KEEP)

5 - Create another SLT, then mount the tape in the tape drive which
      is the Alternate Boot Path

6 - Power down and replace the disk drives, making sure the SCSI ID's
for the replacement disks are the same as the originals.

7 - Startup the machine using the Alternate Boot Path and at the ISL
      prompt do an INSTALL

8 - At the second ISL prompt do a START NORECOVERY NOSYSSTART

9 - Do a DSTAT ALL and then go into VOLUTIL to add the remaining
disks needed into the system volume set with the NEWVOL command.

10 - Do a RESTORE of @[log in to unmask]@ with the DIRECTORY, KEEP, and
     OLDDATE options

     FILE T;DEV=TAPE
     RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask]@-LOG####.PUB.SYS;DIRECTORY;OLDDATE;KEEP

11 - Shutdown the system and reboot normally (Primary Boot Path and
     START NORECOVERY)

12 - Check things out and do another SLT (Maybe even another Full Backup)

13 - Purge BULDJOB1 and BULDJOB2 files.
