Without source code, I don't think there is a way to "trick" a COBOL
program into looking at NM KSAM.
Here' one suggestion, if you have MPEX. When you %ALTFILE your CM KSAM
files to a different file size, one of the side effects is that they'll
get moved to another location on disc. It's not quite as effective as a
specific defragging tool, but your file "chunks" should be bigger and
fewer.
Remember to use your ;LOCAL and ;DELACD parameters. When MPE/iX 5.0 came
around, %ALTFILE started behaving differently, and the files started
getting unwanted ACD's. I'm not sure whether it's a VESoft 'problem' or
a 'feature'. Using ;LOCAL and ;DELACD is my personal workaround.
