Wouldn't it be nice to have options similar to DEN=6250 for DDS drives???
Software control of hardware compression is the best way to go.  If I
understand it right, you disabled all hardware compression via one of those
utility programs.  How about this?

:FILE MYTAPE;DEV=DDS2TAPE;DEN=DDS1COMP
:FILE NEWTAPE;DEV=DDS3TAPE;DEN=DDS2COMP
:FCOPY FROM=*MYTAPE;TO=*NEWTAPE

The various possibilities for DDS tapes and drives is ongoing confusing! Note
that the length of the tape and the presence or absence of MRS also
influences all this.
