According with the instructions in the Patch/iX Download Page what is "byte"

Instructions for installing Patch/iX
1. Move the file "patchix60.store" to the SYS account on your MPE machine.
        Example: ftp> put patchix60.store ./patchix60.store
        Note to ftp users: You should transfer the file using "byte" mode
(as opposed to binary or ASCII).

I have using FTP Reflection Client and it don't have this mode , also the
Ftp Client of WIN 98 .

Anyboby have any suggestions.
