Do you OCT them?  That will generally speed up a CM application by a factor
of about 3 (as far as CPU time is concerned...won't help I/O time, won't
affect stack size limits).

Usage...for a CM program called "FOO":

   :rename foo, foocm
   :octcomp foocm, foo

Note: I recommend testing the OCT'd programs, because the Object Code
Translator (OCTCOMP) is a compiler.  No compiler is 100% bug free (not
FORTRAN/V, OCTCOMP, or even my SPLash! :).  That said, I haven't
seen any OCT problems for over 10 years.
