I believe the issue is not so much that one cannot 'boot' from the 9GB drives,
its that as LDEV 1, the usable space is only around 4GB due to a hardware
limitation with NIO channels (the older CIO channels had a 2GB addressable
limit for ldev 1).  So placing a 9GB drive on ldev 1 is a waste of over
half the
possible storage space....

I've not heard of any plans HP may have towards changing the hardware
channel architecture, but its certainly not beyond possibilities....
